FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the Home Daycare Course a certified course?
It meets BC child care licensing guidelines and covers the training requirements for opening a home daycare. You'll still need to visit a Child Care Resource and Referral centre to complete the licensing process itself.
Will this course qualify me to open a daycare in my home?
To open a home daycare in BC, you'll need the Responsible Adult training, the Home Daycare training, Child Safe First Aid and CPR, and childcare working experience.
How old do I have to be to run a home daycare?
19 years or older.
Can I take the training if I'm younger than 19?
Yes — there's no minimum age to take the Responsible Adult or Home Daycare training itself. You generally need to be 19 or older to work in a paid Responsible Adult role or to run your own home daycare, though there is an exception: an employer can contact their local licensing officer to request an exception allowing someone younger than 19 to work in certain cases.
Do I need to renew this training?
No — both the Home Daycare Course and the Responsible Adult Course are one-time trainings with no renewals required.
When does the course begin?
Whenever you log in. It's fully self-paced with no set dates, no time limits, and lifetime access to the material.
