Learning Disabilities and the Responsible Adult Course: You Can Do This

We want anyone who's serious about working in childcare to feel confident that this course is genuinely within reach — including people with learning disabilities.

The course itself is designed with flexibility in mind. If reading through the material independently is difficult, you're welcome to have someone alongside you — reading through the content together and explaining concepts in a way that makes sense to you. What matters most is understanding the material, not the exact method you use to get there.

The exam follows the same spirit: it's open-book, so you're not being asked to memorize everything from scratch under pressure. You can refer back to your course materials as you work through it, which takes a lot of the stress out of testing for people who learn differently.

And the learning doesn't stop once you're certified. When you start working in a childcare centre, you'll receive further hands-on training, and tasks will be assigned in a way that matches your strengths and comfort level. Getting certified is the first step — not the finish line — and there's ongoing support built into the process as you grow into the role.

If a learning disability has ever made you hesitate about pursuing this certification, we hope this makes it clear: there's a path designed to work with you, not against you.
