With three different affordability programs in play, it's easy to see why families get confused about what they're actually eligible for. Here's the plain-language version of how they fit together.
They're not the same thing, and they can stack. $10 a Day ChildCareBC, CCFRI, and the Affordable Child Care Benefit are three separate programs, each working differently:
A simple starting point: If your child is in care at a regular licensed centre (not a $10-a-day site), you're likely already receiving the CCFRI reduction automatically. From there, if your household income is under roughly $111,000, it's worth applying for ACCB separately — that's the step most families miss, since a "reduced fee" quote from a daycare is usually CCFRI only, not the full picture of what you might qualify for.
1. Ask your provider directly whether they participate in CCFRI (most do). 2. Check whether they're a $10 a Day ChildCareBC site — if so, your fee is already capped regardless of income. 3. If your household income is under about $111,000, apply for ACCB through the province directly. 4. If you're unsure about anything, your local CCRR can walk you through what applies to your specific situation.
None of these programs are mutually exclusive, and for many lower-income families, combining them can turn a market daycare rate into a genuinely small monthly cost.
